• ESTABLISHED IN 1914, The Manitoban is a non-profit newspaper located at the University of Manitoba. It is one of the oldest newspapers in Canada with notable contributors such as media theorist Marshall McLuhan, and CBC’s Nahlah Ayed. Publishing once a week city wide, Delivering the most informative news and research to readers across Winnipeg.

  • With 50,000 weekly distributions across the city in locations with major foot traffic and study, the Manitoban needed a redesign from its old design. The paper required something cleaner, recognizable, and versatile to use for future editors on the staff. This design would help boost readership as well as contribution to the paper.

  • Keeping the iconic bison, the logo was modernized to increase its versatility in usage. The colours chosen were the most politically neutral colours and associated with democracy, yellow and teal. There was emphasis on visualizing the marginalized voices that the paper serves to empower.

Our first outreach campaign was created that included the design of banners, advertisement rate sheets, buttons and a new header. It effectively tripled our readership and doubled staff recruitment.
